SGL Technologies GmbH supplies:
SIGRATEX Woven fabrics (carbon fabrics,
hybrids)
SIGRATEX Woven tapes
SIGRATEX Unidirectional warp cloths (tapes)
SIGRATEX Non wovens
These textile products are processed by our customers mainly into
fibre-reinforced plastics, is carbon fibre-reinforced plastics (CFRP)
in particular. The usual methods of further processing are wet lamination,
moulding - e.g. RTM - or the manufacture of woven fabric prepregs.
The properties of fibre-reinforced plastic components are governed
mainly by the properties of the fibre used, in particular the carbon
fibre, and the form of textile into which the fibre is processed.
The following points are important:
the type of weave
(plain, twill, satin)
weight per unit
area and fineness of the yarn
arrangement of
disparate fibre types in the warp and weft
blending with
yarn made from glass fibres and aramid fibres (hybrid composite)
direction of greater
tensile strength (warp or weft reinforcements) in woven
fabrics
SIGRATEX Non wovens
Non wovens made from carbon fibres (PAN base) can be converted by
the most common produc-tion processes to CFRP products. They are flexible
and electrically conductive. The products pre-sent no health hazard.
The following applications are well-known:
Acid protection
Production of
even and smooth surfaces of CFRP products
Avoidance of electrostatic
loading by semiconducting characteristics in
CFRP components
Substrate in electrodes
of electro-chemical cells (batteries, fuel cells, etc.)
