Fiber Placement Center celebrates its one-year anniversary at JEC World and welcomes two new partners

SGL Carbon Fiber Placement Center birthday and new partners

At this year's JEC World in Paris the partners of the Fiber Placement Center (FPC) of SGL Carbon and Fraunhofer IGCV celebrated the one-year anniversary of the center and announced the acquisition of the two new partners Cevotec and Coriolis Composites. The Fiber Placement Center (FPC) of SGL Carbon and Fraunhofer IGCV, established at the SGL site in Meitingen, is constantly evolving. At this year's JEC World in Paris the partners involved celebrated the one-year anniversary of the center and announced the acquisition of the two new partners Cevotec and Coriolis Composites.

Together with Cevotec, the plan is to set up a SAMBA Pro Prepreg processing line in Meitingen by mid-2020 which will complement the FPC's range of services with the novel Fiber Patch Placement Process.

Since the founding of the FPC, Coriolis has been represented indirectly with the robot-based Fiber Placement system Coriolis C1 through years of cooperation with the Fraunhofer IGCV. With the direct partnership of Coriolis, it is now intended to expand the FPC's machinery towards further automated production methods by means of a Coriolis Csolo system.

Thorsten Gröne, Managing Director of Cevotec: "The Fiber Patch Placement process is particularly suitable for complex shaped components while achieving short cycle times. Through joint projects in the FPC, we will further develop our technology and create new applications together with our partners."

Thomas Gahr of Coriolis Composites: "Automation more and more turns into an essential part of the composites industry. Particulary this is true for Fiber Placement processes. As partner of the FPC, we will contribute not only with our systems, moreover additionally with our sound expertise in robot-based Fiber Placement solutions."

On over 500 m² of lab space with different high-tech machines, the FPC offers customers the possibility to develop production concepts and demonstrate their feasibility by prototyping. In addition, a production of fibre-reinforced components for the large-scale series can also be realized by SGL Carbon. Besides SGL, Fraunhofer IGCV, Coriolis Composites and Cevotec, the FPC includes BA Composites, Compositence GmbH and the Technical University of Munich as partners. New partnerships to the FPC are welcome at any time. Accordings negotiations are already under way.
