SGL Carbon is building a central, state-of-the-art logistics center at its site in Meitingen, near Augsburg, for the effective and efficient handling of all incoming and outgoing goods. A building with a logistics area of approx. 6000 square meters and an office space of approx. 500 square meters will be constructed on the northern border of the site by July 2019. The company is investing a total of 8 million euros in this project. In addition to SGL Carbon, Brembo SGL Carbon Brakes (BSCCB) will be one of the main users.

Four variable dock levelers plus a ground-level loading and unloading system will regulate incoming and outgoing goods. The building will also be home to quality assurance for the inspection of incoming goods. This interaction allows to even better fulfill the high-quality standards, particularly in the automotive industry.

At the highly diversified site in Meitingen, logistics processes have become a key driver for implementing Industry 4.0. The exchange of goods between our production facilities and the new logistics center will be operated via a digital central transport control system. In addition, mobile and ergonomic workstation systems as well as state-of-the-art scanning technology will be used in the logistics center.

Dr Jürgen Köhler, CEO of SGL Carbon: “As new SGL with a focus on our customers, state-of-the-art, efficient and effective logistics are essential in the innovative and fast-growing areas of mobility, energy and digitization. Our new logistics center is not just another investment at the Meitingen site, it is a sign that SGL Carbon is positioning itself for the future and for sustainable and profitable growth.”

District Administrator Martin Sailer and the Mayor of Meitingen, Dr. Michael Higl as well as representatives of the general planning company i.CG Innovations Consultations GmbH and the construction company Goldbeck Süd GmbH were present at today's cornerstone ceremony.
