At a glance:

  • Many discussions with international customers from various industries
  • Great interest seen in new advanced modulus 50k fiber and Carbon Carrier
  • Multitudinous people at the presentation of the new Fiber Placement Center
  • JEC Innovation Award for “MAI Sandwich” project

At the JEC World, the world’s largest composites fair held from March 6-8 in Paris, one could witness the impressive continuity of the development in composite applications. In this context, SGL Group‘s booth was once again a main attraction, where, many promising discussions and meetings with international customers and prospects took place. The focus of most talks were the new concepts for innovative material mixes and solutions for component design and serial production.

At the fair, the company presented its new advanced modulus SIGRAFIL® C T50-4.8/280 50k fiber. Its high stiffness makes it particularly suitable for applications in the aerospace industry. The unique feature is that the high mechanical properties are achieved with a 50k carbon fiber (50,000 single filaments). Among other benefits, it offers significant efficiency advantages for serial production processing.

The presentation of the new Fiber Placement Center on the first day of the fair also attracted a lot of people. Founded in collaboration with Fraunhofer IGCV, the new center is based at SGL Group’s site in Meitingen near Augsburg, set up with the intention of improving the fiber placement production process in large-scale applications across different industries and to further optimize the corresponding concepts in terms of cost-effectiveness and resource efficiency.

Another highlight for SGL was the honor of receiving the JEC Innovation Award for the “MAI Sandwich” project together with Airbus and other partners. The initiative developed new integrated sandwich structures for aerospace and automotive applications using innovative thermoplastic design and a highly efficient production process.

“This year’s JEC World was once again a great success and has proven to be an excellent platform for information exchange with our customers. Our new concepts and products for serial production have received a positive feedback from customers of various industries, to whom SGL Group offers tailored solutions across the entire value chain from a single source,” comments Andreas Wuellner, Head of the Composites – Fibers and Materials business unit in the SGL Group.
