SGL Carbon developed a new graphitized textile yarn based on polyacrylonitrile to complement its material portfolio of SIGRAFLEX® yarns. The new yarn, called SIGRAFLEX OXR, is characterized by a unique combination of properties, making it particularly suitable for use in high-temperature processes.
SIGRAFLEX OXR is produced with a special coating based on the proven APX2 technology. Due to its considerably improved oxidation resistance the yarn can be used also in high process temperatures with minimum weight loss. In addition, it fulfills the end users demands for low friction and high thermal conductivity. With a carbon content of ≥99.5% and low sulfur, fluoride and chloride contents, SIGRAFLEX OXR features a very high degree of purity and is the only coated textile yarn currently on the market that meets the graphite requirements of the Shell specification MESC SPE 85/204.

SGL Carbon has many and various possible combinations in the manufacture of SIGRAFLEX yarns, e.g. base material, carbon content, number of plies and filaments, twist, coating and yarn weight etc. This allows the optimum steering of the yarns’ properties resulting in a comprehensive carbon and graphite yarn portfolio which fulfills the most diverse demands of the customers.
At this year's ACHEMA, the leading trade fair for the process industries, taking place from June 11-15, 2018 in Frankfurt am Main, the new oxidation-resistant SIGRAFLEX OXR yarns will be presented for the first time and will be ready and available from then on.
