Great success for the SGL Carbon site in Willich: one of the company's trainees has been honored by the Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK) for the Middle Lower Rhine region as the best graduate in the industrial-technical field. At the same time, the site was honored with the special award for “Best Training Company in the Field of Industrial-Technical Training” in the region.
The best graduates were honored at the IHK awards ceremony on Thursday, October 2, 2025, in Mönchengladbach. Two trainees from SGL Carbon in the field of machine and plant operation at our Willich site were honored. The two brothers, Quang Tu Ngo and Tuan Ngo, scored 96 and 99 points respectively in their exams, thus completing their training with a “very good” grade. This makes Tuan Ngo not only the best graduate in his field in the Middle Lower Rhine region, but also the best in the entire state of North Rhine-Westphalia.
“I learned a great deal during my training at SGL Carbon and was always able to rely on the support of my trainer. The award came as quite a surprise to us, but I was also very happy,” said Tuan Ngo.
Award for best training company
Thanks to the outstanding achievements of the two brothers, SGL Carbon's Willich site was also honored as the best training company in the region in the field of industrial-technical training. Since 1995, the SGL site in Willich, with around 90 employees, has been producing pre-impregnated materials made of carbon, glass, aramid, or natural fibers, known as prepregs, which are used in the automotive and aerospace industries, for example.
Sebastian de Haan, the trainer for machine and plant operators, is proud: “We are delighted with the outstanding performance of our two trainees and with the recognition of our training program program – we have all worked very hard to achieve this. It was a great training period.”
