As a technology-based company and one of the world's leading companies in the development and production of carbon-based solutions, SGL Carbon opts for innovative ways to efficiently procure and secure green electricity. Since the beginning of the year, wind turbines in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Lower Saxony and North Rhine-Westphalia have been supplying SGL Carbon with electricity to produce products for pioneering industries such as climate-friendly mobility, semiconductor technology, LED, solar and wind energy. As a result, part of the electricity demand at the German sites is covered by green electricity.
SGL Carbon has secured the appropriate electricity volumes and generation profiles for 2025 and 2026 via the PPA marketplace of digital renewables, which will be integrated via the existing supplier. For SGL Carbon, this is a further step along the path to achieving its ambitious ESG targets.
The collaboration with digital renewables is unlocking new efficiencies through the digitalization of energy procurement. This enables SGL Carbon to produce economically and sustainably at its sites in Germany - despite the current challenges ranging from political conditions to volatile and high energy prices.
