  • 30 years of SGL epo GmbH: Prepregs based on carbon, glass, aramid, and natural fibers
  • Anniversary celebration with customers and colleagues took place on November 7

This year, SGL Carbon's Willich site is celebrating a special anniversary. For 30 years, high-quality prepregs have been manufactured here with great commitment and expertise – initially based on carbon fibers, and now also using glass, aramid, and even natural fibers. This anniversary was celebrated on November 7 together with customers and colleagues.

What began in 1995 with the founding of epo GmbH, a prepreg plant with 20 employees, has developed into a central prepreg production center within SGL Carbon. With four production plants, over 100 employees, and a broad product range, Willich is an important pillar of our fiber composites business within the Business Unit Carbon Fibers.

Milestones in 30 Years

The development of the site demonstrates the interaction of technological progress, customer focus, and teamwork: from the integration of epo GmbH into SGL Carbon in 2007 and the focus on prepreg production in Willich, to the development of innovative natural fiber prepregs. Today, the site is a leading producer of high-performance prepregs for the aerospace, automotive, medical, and mechanical engineering industries and is a key supplier for our joint venture BSCCB in the field of carbon-ceramic brake discs.

Thank you to all our employees and customers

Behind this success is a dedicated team that works every day with competence, creativity, and a strong awareness of quality to win over our customers worldwide. Over the years, Willich has distinguished itself through innovative solutions, strong customer relationships, and the ability to adapt to new market requirements.

“It was a wonderful opportunity to pause and thank everyone who has helped shape the site's development. With their outstanding performance, team spirit, and many ideas, our colleagues have made the site what it is today: a place where high-tech prepregs and a passion for modern materials come together,” said site manager Christian Fischermann.
