Graphite is the material of choice

Components made of graphite are absolutely indispensable in the manufacture of semiconductors. SGL Carbon delivers the necessary graphite components for several stages of this production process—for semiconductors made of both silicon (Si) and silicon carbide (SiC), which we will be pleased to explain to you at our booth.

Our graphite components specifically support the following three process steps:

SGL Carbon delivers graphite electrodes and graphite felts as well as heaters made of carbon-fiber reinforced graphite used for manufacturing high-purity silicon and silicon-carbide.

Next is the growth of single crystals, also known as monocrystalline ingots from silicon or silicon carbide. For this process SGL Carbon supplies heat- and corrosion-resistant furnace components and heating elements made of graphite.

Semiconductors also must be chemically coated. During this process, the wafers are often carried on graphite susceptor plates that are manufactured by SGL Carbon.
