GIFA/THERMPROCESS 2015: SGL Group presents comprehensive range of specialty graphite for casting applications and high temperature furnaces

At a glance:

  • Broad range of specialty graphite shown for customized solutions
  • Customers benefit from connection of material and application competence

SGL Group – The Carbon Company – shows its specialty graphite products and services for casting applications and high temperature furnaces at the 13th International Foundry Trade Fair (GIFA) and the 11th International Trade Fair and Symposium for Thermo Process Technology (THERMPROCESS), held from June 16 to June 20 in Duesseldorf.

At its booth SGL Group exhibits the most comprehensive range of specialty graphite industry-wide. Based on this broad material base experts identify the best solution for the special requirements of each customer. Specialty graphite products of SGL Group are typically used in applications like continuous casting of non-ferrous metals or the heat treatment of steel components for the automotive industry.

SGL Group’s service portfolio includes

  • Casting dies made from SIGRAFINE® fine-grain graphite for continuous casting
  • Degassing tubes made from SIGRAFINE® NOX treated for aluminum production
  • Engineering for heating chambers and charging fixtures for high temperature furnaces
  • Charging fixtures made of SIGRABOND® carbon fiber-reinforced carbon (C/C)
  • Carbon and graphite products for heating chambers of high temperature furnaces, e.g. heating elements made of SIGRAFINE® fine-grain graphite or SIGRABOND® C/C and thermal insulations made of SIGRATHERM® rigid and soft carbon and graphite felt

Burkhard Straube, Chairman of the Business Unit Graphite Materials & Systems: „Our strength is the combination of material and application know-how for casting and high temperature applications based on our comprehensive specialty graphite portfolio. Therewith we develop customized, efficient solutions for the production processes of our customers.“

For instance the C/C material SIGRABOND® Performance offers clear advantages versus traditional carbon fiber-reinforced carbon with an up to 20 percent higher rigidity and a lower porosity. It also serves as material base for the design and manufacture of charging fixtures for the optimized loading of heat treatment furnaces, like pusher-through hardening furnaces with gas or oil quenching, and of charging plates for vacuum sintering furnaces for the production of cemented carbides.
