SGL Group – The Carbon Company – won the biggest single order for graphite shell and tube heat exchangers in its history. Being placed last month by KGHM Polska Miedz, one of the largest producers of copper and silver in the world, it comprises the supply of Graphite Shell and Tube Heat Exchangers used for the efficient cooling of a wash liquor containing sulfuric acid. The order has a low single-digit million euro volume.
The heat exchangers are equipped with SGL Group’s high performance DIABON® graphite tubes providing the highest efficiency available on the market of 130/70 W/mK. In addition the tubes are covered with CARBOGUARD® carbon fiber wrapping, developed and patented by SGL Group, which further improves the safety and reliability of the equipment. Small footprint of the installation and minimized maintenance costs over the equipment lifetime are just some of the key benefits from these features.
