Overview of the HS Code 2022 and the changes to the HS Code 2017

The HS Code 2022 (Harmonized Commodity Description and Coding System) will come into force on 1 January 2022. It is intended to better reflect technical progress and changes in trade patterns as well as environmental aspects. Since experience shows that not all countries worldwide will be able to switch to the HS 2022 at the same time, there may be import delays in individual cases.

The WTO has published an Online Tool to compare the different HS versions. This allows all versions to be compared with each other as desired.

In particular, Chapters 68 and 70 are also affected. SGL Carbon has determined the effects on its main products and provides you with a non-binding assessment. We must point out that the information has been provided by us to the best of our knowledge, but that in some cases we are still obtaining binding information from the customs authorities. If necessary, the binding information may require change to our assessment. We will then inform you accordingly.

We recommend that you check the effects of the HS changes on your own company in good time before the turn of the year. This will enable you to assess whether there will be any major effects.
