Electrical discharge machining (EDM) is advantageous when the technical limits of mechanically processing difficult-to-machine materials are reached. This thermally ablative process can precisely machine all electrically conductive materials.

Electrical discharge machining is primarily used to manufacture injection molds, die-casting molds, forging dies, and prototypes. It is ideal for producing deep, narrow recesses and cuts, as well as extremely complex surface structures.

Measures range from careful incoming inspections and testing of raw materials to continuous monitoring of process parameters and random sampling with destructive analysis. These measures are applied to every single block that leaves the production process. Additionally, unique identification marks enable complete traceability of each product's origin.

Versatile, reliable, efficient.

Our comprehensive range of SIGRAFINE fine-grain graphites can meet virtually all EDM requirements, including high-performance milling (HPM). The speed at which graphite can be machined is limited only by the performance of the computer and machining system, not by the material itself. Depending on the electrode geometry, feed rates of 10 m/min and higher can be achieved, in addition to very high cutting speeds. These parameters are comparable to those for aluminum and plastics.
