Long history of manufacturing high-quality carbon fabric
SGL Carbon’s subsidiary SGL Technic LLC, located in Valencia, CA, USA, has a long-standing experience in the carbonization of rayon fabric for the most extreme applications.
We produce carbon fabric since 1976 and played a major role in the US Space Shuttle Program with NASA. Our proven track record: SGL Carbon’s carbonized fabric has shown consistently high-quality performance in reusable solid rocket motor (RSRM) nozzles, helping to ensure the Space Shuttles’ safety and the success of the program.
At our Valencia site we process weaved rayon cloth into carbon cloth via a strongly monitored carbonization process at temperatures above 1,200 °C (2,192 °F). Especially temperature increase rate and time, temperature stability, and a stable inert process atmosphere are the critical process parameters which need close supervision.

Our carbonized rayon fabric is suitable for the most demanding high-temperature ablative applications e. g.

It can also be used as a heat shield at very high temperatures.
