At a glance:

  • “Carbon Carrier” technology avant-garde for large-scale production
  • New "Advanced Modulus" 50k carbon fiber
  • Opening of the Fiber Placement Center on March 6

SGL Group offers its customers from various industries tailored solutions along the entire value chain. At this year’s JEC World, the largest trade fair for composites being held from March 6-8, 2018 in Paris, the company will be presenting new composite materials and components for serial production at booth D25 in hall 6.

One of the highlights of the show will be the “Carbon Carrier,” a technology avant-garde co-developed by SGL Group and Bertrandt, ready for large-scale production for new automotive body approach concepts. The exhibit will be accompanied by an augmented reality presentation. The OEM neutral concept is a comprehensive system of an instrument panel based on fiber composites that integrates individual components and multiple functionalities. This is an example of flexible configurations and design possibilities for the interior of future vehicles.

Another highlight of SGL Group is the new "Advanced Modulus" carbon fiber named SIGRAFIL® C T50-4.8 / 280. Its high stiffness makes it particularly suitable for applications in the aerospace industry. The unique feature it exhibits is that the high mechanical properties are achieved with a 50k carbon fiber (50,000 single filaments). Among other benefits, it offers significant efficiency advantages for serial production processing.

In the "Composites in Action" exhibition area (hall 6, booth R86), SGL Group and the Fraunhofer IGCV will also present their recently established Fiber Placement Center for the first time. The new center, which is headquartered at the SGL site in Meitingen near Augsburg, is intended to improve the fiber placement production process in large-scale applications across different industries and to further optimize the corresponding concepts in terms of cost-effectiveness and resource efficiency. At the JEC on March 6, 2018 at 1.30 pm, Andreas Wüllner, Head of Business Unit Composites – Fibers & Materials of SGL Group and Prof. Dr. Ing. Klaus Drechsler, Head of the Chair of Carbon Composites at the Technical University of Munich, will officially launch the new center in a celebratory on the stand. All visitors are welcome to attend the opening.
