Aircraft brakes are key components and bear a lot of responsibility for facilitating landing, taxiing on the apron and aborting a take-off. The brake discs are subjected to extreme mechanical and thermal loads. We have been manufacturing carbon/carbon (C/C) brake materials from their initial development on high performance military aircraft through the wide spread acceptance on commercial aircraft. Our C/C materials are qualified on a number of military and commercial aircraft. Years of production and development of aircraft brakes have led to new products and applications utilizing the technology and unique properties of carbon/carbon.
Our PANOX® oxidized PAN fibers are the preferred material for high-performance brakes. Their outstanding textile processing properties enable the production of brake discs, which can withstand temperatures of over 1000°C. Our brake discs are manufactured from preformed nonwoven products, which are then carbonized, resulting in a solid C/C product.
