As part of the realignment of SGL Carbon, clear profitability criteria were defined for all four Business Units and strategic options were developed. The path of profitable growth also included a review of all SGL sites. In this context, the SGL site in Pune (India) was divested to a local market player on April 28, 2023.
The Pune plant was erected by SGL Carbon in 2012 and, with its approximately 40 employees, is part of the Process Technology Business Unit. Pune served as a production and service center mainly for local customers in India. SGL's Process Technology Business Unit offers customized solutions for graphite and PTFE-based products up to complete customer installations as well as their repair and service.
The Indian buyer will take over the Pune site as a running business, including the workforce.
"We will continue to support a large part of our international and local customers with our know-how, products and services from other SGL sites where we have excellent competence centers," explained Dr. Oliver Seidel, Head of the Process Technology Business Unit.
