Our partnerships offer you the decisive advantage
Our strategic network includes a wide variety of partnerships. These include service, heat transfer, separation and mixing, as well as R&D activities related to the conversion of lignocellulosic biomass.
We are constantly striving to expand our network and thus increase your customer benefit.

Alfa Laval SE: DIABON® plate heat exchanger
SGL Carbon and Alfa Laval, a world leader within the key technology areas of heat transfer, separation and fluid handling, have developed a family of plate heat exchanger made of DIABON especially for the use in corrosive applications.
The following DIABON plate heat exchangers from SGL Carbon and Alfa Laval are offered worldwide:
Product name | Exchange area in m2 | Max. number of plates |
---|---|---|
P90 (Typ S15N) | up to 60 | 96 |
P40 (Typ S10) | up to 52 | 130 |
P25 (Typ M10G) | up to 40 | 160 |
P05 (Typ S1) | up to 4 | 80 |

SULZER Chemtech: Mellacarbon™ column internals made of SIGRABOND® Chemical
SGL Carbon and SULZER Chemtech, a market leader for separation and mixing technology, are joining forces.
Beside the already marketed structured packing made of carbon fiber-reinforced carbon (CFRC) a new fiber based internals family was developed to allow a well controlled liquid management in packed towers within challenging corrosive atmosphere.
The results are economic designs of CFRC column internals with significant size and weight reduction for even large diameters compared to any other alternative.
The current portfolio of CFRC column internals includes:
- Liquid distributors
- Collectors
- Structured packing
- Support grids and structures
- Retainers
- Feed tubes

GEA Group AG: DIABON in vacuum systems
SGL Carbon and GEA, one of the largest suppliers of process technology for the food industry and a wide range of other industries, have developed a new ejector body made of DIABON mainly to replace the former ceramic ejectors without modifications on existing installations.
The main advantages of the new DIABON ejector body are:
- Very accurate dimensions vs. porcelain
- Higher mechanical resistance
- Energy savings of more than 30%
- Reduced manufacturing costs
- Faster lead times (pre-machined parts available from stock)
The integration of further components as well as equipment (e.g. block heat exchanger) into the vacuum systems are also part of the cooperation.

Green Sugar AG: DIABON and POLYFLURON® in conversion of biomass
Green Sugar, a German engineering company developing processes for the conversion of lignocellulosic biomass into highly pure sugar and valuable biochemical, and SGL Carbon have initiated the realization of a prototype and demonstration plant within a 2-stage development project.
As the pre-treatment of the biomass is based on hydrochloric acid and the acid is kept in a closed cycle. The experience and the know-how of SGL Carbon in acid handling (e.g. evaporation, acid recovery) is one of the key success factors for the joint development project. Being able to transfer results out of the prototype step into an industrial application is another key success factor SGL Carbon can contribute.
SGL Carbon will engineer and design tailor-made DIABON heat exchangers and reactors in the first step of the development partnership to equip the prototype installation of Green Sugar. With this, the suitability of DIABON and the developed equipment concept can be verified.

Roland Maurer Industriemontage GmbH:
Certified service partner for DIABON and POLYFLURON
Founded in 1994, Roland Maurer Industriemontage (RMI) is a recognized specialist in servicing glass, glass-lined, PTFE-lined and glass fiber reinforced equipment. RMI is operating a well equipped workshop and offers a highly experienced team in handling sensitive equipment for corrosive applications to its customers.
RMI is the perfect partner for DIABON and POLYFLURON equipment made by SGL Carbon. Passing a comprehensive training program and fulfilling all requirements referring to quality standards and certifications, RMI is able to offer the same high-level service and repair procedures as the equipment OEM.
Being the first certified service partner of SGL Carbon, RMI also has supported to generate and establish our actual standards in certification of service partners.

System-Instandsetzungs- und Service GmbH:
Certified service partner at Bitterfeld-Wolfen Industrial Park
Founded in 1993 System-Instandsetzungs- und Service GmbH (SIS) is a recognized regional partner in servicing, maintaining, refurbishing process equipment operated in (petro-)chemical applications. Servicing safety valves as well as custom-made products underline the high experience and quality level of the SIS team located in Bitterfeld-Wolfen.
Based on that background SIS also is the perfect partner for SGL Carbon's DIABON and POLYFLURON equipment. Passing a comprehensive training program and fulfilling all requirements referring to quality standards and certifications, SIS will be able to offer the same high-level service and repair procedures as the equipment OEM.
As the partnership is launched just now, the full scope of service solutions will be available soon.
