
Thermal runaway in battery cells
Green logistics and mobility are critical to the fight against climate change. However, electrification poses challenges, especially for the safe operation of battery cells. SIGRATHERM graphite foils enable uniform temperature distribution and efficient heat dissipation - even in the event of thermal runaway. SIGRATHERM® solutions for battery thermal management
A lithium-ion battery in an e-mobile works perfectly within the temperature window of 20-40 °C. As soon as the battery gets too hot or too cold, it loses a certain share of its performance and ages faster, and this consistently.
Solutions using conventional thermal management systems often reach their limits here and cannot meet the high safety requirements of e-mobility - in contrast to heat dissipation or cooling systems based on SIGRATHERM graphite materials. The high anisotropy e.g. of our flexible graphite foil leads to effective spreading of the heat across the entire foil surface and thus acts additionally as a thermal protection shield.
Components

SIGRATHERM® High-Density Flexible Graphite Foil
SGL Carbon’s SIGRATHERM high-density flexible graphite foil is made of high quality natural graphite without binders or fillers. It can be easily cut to shape, punched and even applied with an adhesive coating. Thus, it allows optimum from closure to other components or their surfaces. Excellent chemical and corrosion resistance as well as high temperature resistance and no aging behavior are additional advantages of this our sophisticated heat dissipation product.
